New Life – Workshops, Demonstrations and Events

The New Life exhibition by the North West Woodcraft Guild celebrates the beauty and potential of reclaimed timber. By rediscovering wood that might otherwise be discarded, makers reveal the character, age, and story within each piece. Using both traditional and contemporary techniques—such as woodturning, carving, pyrography, veneering, and CNC—guild members transform old timber into new works while sharing knowledge about craftsmanship, patience, and sustainable use of natural materials.

Throughout the exhibition period (15 February – 3 May 2026), visitors can experience the craft firsthand through a series of demonstrations, workshops, and family-friendly activities. Learn how to carve a comfort bird, watch skilled woodturners at work, try pyrography, explore the delicate Japanese technique of Kumiko, or enjoy a nursery rhyme book reading. These events offer a rare opportunity to meet the makers, discover traditional skills, and gain a deeper appreciation for the art of working with wood.
