Who Cares About the Weather in Space?
A 45-Minute Public Talk by Dr Marc Duldig
📍 Gnomon Pavilion, Ulverstone | 🕓 4:00 PM, August 2
Just like the weather around us there is also weather in space but its different. There are storms and winds and eruptions from the sun. These things can affect our technologies like spacecraft and satellites and can disrupt them. Sometimes even our technologies on the ground can be affected. We will learn how this happens and what we do about it. And we’ll even learn how the aurora happens along the way.
Dr Marc Duldig has been researching astrophysics and Space Weather for 50 years. His specialty is particle radiation from space. He worked in with equipment in the Antarctic and around the world. He has also been President of the Australian Institute of Physics and a long-term Secretary of the Astronomical Society of Australia (40 years, handing on the role only last month). He is currently Chair of the Tasmanian Radiation Advisory Council advising the Minister for Health and the Department of Health on all matters related to radiation and lasers.
