Join Hive’s Principal Astronomer, Dr. Martin George, to look at the spectacular night sky and learn about the stars and planets!

You are welcome to bring along your telescope if you have one. However, Hive telescopes will be available for use on the evening. Participants are responsible for their own equipment.

This is an outdoor, nighttime event so please rug up and wear appropriate footwear.

Hosted by Mt Gnomon Farm in the warmth of the woodfired barn, this evening will commence with an indoor presentation titled Astronomy is for Everyone and weather permitting, be followed by stargazing from the dark paddocks of Mt Gnomon Farm.

Food and Drink are available to purchase at the licensed bar and some options can be prebooked at time of registration.

Menu Options

Kids meal – Chicken and chips. $15
Adults meal. $35 Mount Gnomon Farm Feasting Plate, A hardy winter diner featuring roast farm produce and seasonal vegetables. Gluten free. (vegetarian options available)
Dessert $15 Apple crumble with ice cream.
The bar will be open including mulled wine.

This event is suitable for all ages.

There are free tickets to participate in the talk and stargazing as well as tickets inclusive of dinner. Registrations are essential.

Ticket sales commence at 2pm Friday 18 July.

Dr. Martin George MASA is Principal Astronomer at the Ulverstone Planetarium at Hive. Martin is a well-known communicator of astronomy, appearing frequently in the media (especially radio programs and newspapers). He loves to bring the exciting science of astronomy to people of all ages. Martin is a member of several professional organisations, including the Astronomical Society of Australia, the International Astronomical Union, and the International Planetarium Society, of which he is Chair of International Development.
