Create a New Species in Clay

Inspired by the forms, textures and patterns found throughout the Big Small Worlds exhibition in the Gallery at Hive, participants will create their own hybrid organism using porcelain clay.

Guided by ceramic artist Christie Lange, this fun, hands-on workshop encourages close observation, imagination and creative experimentation through simple hand-building techniques. Participants will begin with a guided exhibition tour before designing and sculpting creating their own speculative creature or new species in clay.

No prior experience is required and all materials will be provided.

Important Information

  • Ages 12+
  • Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron
  • No food or drink permitted in the clay studio
  • A light lunch will be provided during a break on the Hive site

*Please note: participants will not be able to take their hybrid creature home on the day, as works will require approximately one month drying time prior to firing. Finished works will be fired by Hive staff and participants contacted when ready for collection.
