
Family Science Day 2026
Family Science Day at Hive returns as part of National Science Week, showcasing hands-on science, live presentations, workshops, planetarium shows, and an expo celebrating Tasmanian science and scientists.
This year’s National Science Week theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All, is reflected across a full day of interactive experiences for all ages.
SCIENCE CENTRE EXPO
📍Tasmanian Science Centre, Level 2 at Hive. 🕓10am – 4pm, August 15
The Science Centre will be transformed into a hub of discovery, featuring interactive pop-up stalls from scientists across Tasmania.
We’re also excited to welcome four Young Tassie Scientists, each sharing their expertise through hands-on activities designed for curious minds of all ages.
…and don’t forget there will also be the crowd-favourite Derby Track to test your car engineering skills!!
PLANETARIUM SHOWS
Four planetarium shows will run across the day as part of the Family Science Day program
Family Science Day show times:
11am: Tycho Goes to Mars (all ages show)
1pm: Tilt – our new show about Earth’s seasons! (all ages show)
2pm: Phantom of the Universe: the Search for Dark Matter (ages 5+ only)
3pm: The Universe through all the senses – a fun show about how we can touch, see, smell, hear and taste the Universe! (ages 5+ only)
