SUMMARY:Sound in Space - TL;DR
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, 18 October 2026\n1pm and 3pm\nTicket Price: $30\nTL;DR is a quartet formed in 2024 by Peter Knight\, who served as Artistic Director of the Australian Art Orchestra from 2013 to 2023. The group’s self-titled debut album on Earshift Music\, released in 2025\, received an extraordinary response\, earning an ARIA nomination for Jazz Album of the Year and inclusion in the NYC Jazz Record’s Top Ten Releases of 2025. \nThe quartet features bassist/vocalist Helen Svoboda\, guitarist Theo Carbo\, and drummer Quinn Knight. Crossing generations and backgrounds\, they represent some of the most inventive voices in Australian improvised music today. \nDrawing on the influences of Brian Eno\, Jon Hassell\, and The Necks\, TL;DR makes hypnotic\, minimal\, groove-based music built on slow harmonic evolution\, rhythmic layering\, and luminous interplay. Their music rewards deep listening and lingers long after the sound has faded. \nPhosphenes\, the quartet’s 2nd album scheduled for release on Earshift Music in 2026\, takes its name from the light patterns perceived behind closed eyes: sensations produced from within rather than without. The music further refines an approach built on Knight’s prepared trumpet and electronics\, Svoboda’s floating soprano and resonant bass\, Carbo’s textural guitar\, and Quinn Knight’s shimmering\, cymbal-rich drumming \n2 session times per performance at 1-2pm / 3-4pm. $30 per ticket (no concessions). \nSound in Space T&C’s  \n\nRecommended for 16 and over\, lower age limit 5+\nLimited seating includes accessible seating for up to 3 wheelchairs (please call to reserve specialty seating).\nA Sound in Space ticket includes general access to Hive’s Art Gallery\, Museum and Science Centre. Please note Hive closes at 4pm.
