Learn how to design, draw and present a piece of furniture from a Design Brief.
The course includes:
- Receiving a ‘Design Brief’ at the start of the course to work on over the 6 weeks. By the end of the course you will have designed a piece of furniture ready to be made
- Discovering how to work on a design brief using visual research
- Discovering how to record what you observe, retaining your ideas in a sketchbook, interpreting, for example, light, shadow and texture then drawing what you see
- Discovering the range and variety of materials used in furniture making
- Creating your own working scale drawing of your piece of furniture
- Presenting your design concept as a perspective drawing within a living environment
- Learning about the history of furniture design
- Becoming familiar with the most significant furniture designers over the last 300 years
- Understanding what influenced important designers
9:30 – 4:30 every Tuesday from 26th July- 30th August
$750 cost includes 6 full day sessions, supplies, and tuition from an international designer and industry expert.

This course is presented by James Bradley.
James is a graduate of the London College of Furniture and has previously lectured at UTAS and the Sydney College of the Arts. James has 40 years of design and manufacturing experience and is a founding member of Anibou, Sydney. You can find his furniture in Parliament House in Canberra, Power House Museum in Sydney, Commonwealth Bank Head Office in Sydney and the Minter Ellison Law Firm Head Office in Sydney.
