This hands-on workshop introduces children to textile design.
Participants will be introduced to simple stitching techniques including, running-stitch and sewing on buttons and beads, as well as exploring how colours and shapes work together to create an effect.
Using felt, embroidery thread, buttons and beads children will create a patterned felt square that may be framed, attached to a tote-bag or made into a small pillow.
Suitable for children ages 9 – 13 years old.
Bring along a can-do attitude and a water bottle to stay hydrated.
This workshop is being presented by Lisa Haas and will take place at Hive’s Studio One.
Lisa is an experienced textile designer working in a range of mediums and techniques; she has had her work recognised at the Design Tasmania Awards as well as being available for purchase in a range of retail stores, including her own open studio/retail space. She also undertakes commission work, for example creating bespoke light shades.
Additionally, Lisa is a qualified teacher of design working across a range of age groups and currently teaching at college level. She also delivers textile workshops from her home studio with participants as young as 10 through to those with a few more years under their belt.
This hands-on workshop is suitable for interested children and does not assume any prior sewing experience. However due to the nature of the practical activity, an ability to be able to use their hands and follow the presenter’s instructions is required. If your child is disruptive, you will be asked to come and collect them for everybody’s safety.
Children will need to be at Hive by the designated start time. Adults are welcome to stay with their children or to leave them, but we ask that they are picked up promptly at the end of the workshop.
